Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere. ~Chinese Proverb The Freeport Learning Center is a resource bargained for YOU, the Local 745 members at Titan Tire. A part of ICD (Institute for Career Development), the Freeport Learning Center is a joint venture with Titan Tire, who contributes 10 cents for each hour worked at the plant. The Freeport Learning Center is located on the east edge of Freeport, approximately 5 minutes from the plant. Short-term classes are offered to active and laid-off members for the most part at no cost. Retirees and spouses are also eligible to take classes providing there is room and no additional costs are incurred. Postings for available classes are placed on the plant bulletin boards, the website, at the Union office, and in the Workforce Training/Union/Benefits Office in the front of the plant. Sign-ups are on a first-come, first-served basis. Each class is offered to all three shifts, normally once a week for 5 weeks, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. Most classes will run for two hours a day: 3rd shift 7:30-9:30 am; 2nd shift 12:30-2:30 pm; 1st shift 3:30-5:30 pm. A minimum of 5 active or laid-off members is required to hold a class, with a maximum of about 10 students. Since January of 2008, offerings have included: Computer Classes Basic Residential Wiring
