Contract Negotiations12/29/2010 We are expected to be back at work on Thursday December 30, 2010. The New Year Holiday period will be celebrated on Monday January 3, 2011. 12/23/2010 This message comes from USW Local 745 Leadership. Membership voted today, December 23, 2010 to reject the company's Last, Best and Final Offer. The company has notified the local that the lock-out has been lifted and we are scheduled to return to work under the terms of the Last, Best and Final offer. The company will be contacting members and telling them of their start up operations plans. At this time the USW plans NO Strike action. 12/19/2010 We have added a sign-up system for picket line duty to this website. Click on "Home" at the left of this page. At the top of the page you will see this title: Sign up for picket duty or donate items. We need your help to man the Picket Line. Please sign up to help. 12/18/2010 If you would like to sign up for picket duty or other assignments as needed please call the Union Hall at: 815-235-9713. If no one answers please leave your name and number and someone will contact you. We have arranged an informational meeting at the Masonic Temple on Monday 12/20/2010 and begins at 1 PM. IDES (unemployment) will be at this meeting. They will be giving information on how to apply for benefits only, not to fill out claims. ************************************************************ Tentative plans are being made to hold a ratification meeting on Thursday December 12/23/2010. Time and place for this meeting will be announced at the Monday meeting
CHECK BACK OFTEN FOR UPDATES
12/17/2010 A small group informational picket will begin at the plant tonight at 11:01 PM. REMINDER: This picket must remain orderly at all times. We do not want anything happening that could cause legal trouble or a termination for anyone. Absolutely no alcohol or firearms on the line. 12/16/2010 Your representatives continue to talk with the company in attempt to reach an agreement. Unfortunately time is quickly running out. At this point the company has told us that all three plants Freeport, Des Moines and Bryan will be going down 11:59 PM Friday December 17, 2010. There has not been a time given or a commitment on a time to talk about settling the agreement. We have tentatively arranged for an informational meeting at the Masonic Temple on Monday 12/20/2010 and begins at 1 PM. Please check back this weekend for any updates on this information. We are attempting to get people from the unemployment office to come to the Union Hall one day next week. We will post day and times if we can get this accomplished. 12/14/2010 On December 13 and 14 the United Steelworkers bargaining team started working their way through the economic issues such as insurance, SPT, Dental, wages, etc. with the company. At this time there has been a small amount of issues agreed upon. As the progress your grievance and negotiating committee will do the best to represent our local getting the best deal we can get. 12/2/2010 QUOTE: "They argued that the Fricks and the Carnegies of the Gilded Age were establishing a feudalism of corporate control, an aristocracy of wealth that supplanted the American ideals of democracy and participation". "The River Ran Red" Homestead 1892 Met with the company on open items today. Not much movement. We (UT3) updated the list of open items and those agreed upon.
12/1/2010 Discussing Article XV (wage application): shift premiums, overtime pay and reporting pay. Also looking at vacation language.
11/30/2010 A lot of discussion about Article XIV (equalization of overtime). Some issues are agreed upon but many still are still open or unresolved, such as 12 hr shifts and forced overtime.
11/29/2010 All three locals along with international representatives met with the company to discuss the Drug and Alcohol Policy that will be standardized at all three locations. As the week progresses the we will be concentrating on common issues for all locations such as, Insurance, SPT, VEBA, etc. We will also be working on local plant specific items.
11/27/2010 The Grievance and Negotiating Committee will be traveling back to Merrillville, IN on Sunday 11/28/10 to resume negotiations with the Co. We urge you to keep working to the best standards as you always do. Problems happening in the plant on a daily basis end up being distractions in our discussions with the Co.
